Fourth of July

Fourth of July!
this year for the Freedom Festival run Russ, Mary Anne, and I all ran the 10K (6 miles). my Dad, Konda, and nieces Lauren & Briley all did the 1 mile fun run. for some reason this is becoming a tradition. after doing the 10k i'm not sure if i even enjoy running that much. at the same time it is a fun thing to be apart of. Russ did amazing! his time was 51:56. Mary Anne was a trooper and ran the whole thing with me. our time was 1:02:52, not bad.
for those who know me know that i am a cry pretty easily. for some reasons events like these get me choked up. i would like to know everyone's story. you know, why they are running, what they have overcome, how old they are, how many kids they have, etc. after the fourth mile i was wishing we had done the 5k (3 miles.) by the fifth mile i was really struggling. (not to mention the last mile was up a slight incline.) Mary Anne was running with her i-pod, so she would start singing a song to me so i could get it in my head and sing, then she just sang to me. then probably half way up that hill there was a lady sitting on the side of the road clapping and saying over and over again, "YES YOU CAN, YES YOU CAN!!" man i needed that! it made me start crying but crying while running a 10k, not the best idea. i couldn't quite get my breathe so i almost started hyperventilating. i got myself under control and said "YES I CAN" over and over in my head. between Mary Anne and the lady on the side of the road i was able to finish the silly race. just thinking about it i am crying all over again. things like this just bring out such raw emotion and a camaraderie in people you've never met and will never see again. anyway...that's the story.

bright and early before the race

look at russ go!

yeah girls!
dusty, my mom, my boys, sadie, dayton, and colton cheering us on! that was at about 4.5 mile. what a good pick me up!

on the way home we stopped at the Shoshone falls. the first thing my boys said way that they were going to throw a rock into it. we had a picnic up on this hill. the kids each had a turn sliding down the hill on grandpa's blanket.
