sled + slide = great fun!

Sunday we had a ton of snow! the boys all wanted to go play outside after church. we got Owen ready then William & Jonathon. Note to self, get Owen ready last. by the time Will and Jon were ready Owen was too hot and didn't want to to outside anymore. i sent him to his room because he was throwing a fit while Russ took the other boys outside. while Russ shoveled the snow the boys built walls of snow behind where Russ parks both Jeeps. they were very proud of their walls. then they took the sled down the slide and when for a walk around the neighborhood. they found a snowdrift that when above Russ' knees. William and Jonathon would jump into, they were so excited to tell me about it. after about 2 hrs they all came in for hot cocoa.
Monday the boys go play outside again. this time a neighbor boys is over playing too. they're taking the sled down the slide again while i am shoveling snow in the front. at one point i look to the backyard to see Jonathon goes whizzing by on the sled super fast in the opposite direction as the slide. where did he come from? i go to investigate, as i get closer i realize the only thing that direction is the stairs. yep, stairs covered in snow and about 17 stairs long. very fast! so fun for them! since Jonathon went down them William had to go down. i think i am an adventurous person, going down the stairs on a sled does sound awesome, watching your 5 year old go down that many stairs...pretty scary for a parent! then neighbor boy wanted a turn as well. at the bottom he put his hand out and hit the railing, i about freaked out thinking how to explain to his mom that i let him go down the stairs and he broke his arm. good thing he was alright!
no more new snow for Tuesday so i shovel the stairs because i really don't want the boys sledding down them anymore. now Owen is also having fun outside going down the slide with the sled and a brother. (not quite ready to go by himself.)
Wednesday no snow on the stairs. all the boys are outside playing, I'm inside where it is warm. i hear some loud sounds outside so i go to investigate. William meets me at the back door saying Jonathon is really hurt. run outside. they had taken the sled down the stairs. the stairs that have no snow on them. i don't know what happened exactly, but William said Jonathon did a back flip on the stairs. Jonathon is sitting at the bottom crying, blood streaming from his nose. i put some snow on his nose and carry him inside to the bath tub so blood doesn't get everywhere. luckily he is totally fine. a nose just bleeds a lot. he has a scraped forehead and a little bit of a sore nose but otherwise he is fine. could have been a lot worse. crazy boys! now we have new rules for sledding down the stairs, like don't do it if there is no snow and then if there is snow you have to have mommy or daddy outside with you. we'll see how long that lasts!

Russ really is a great dad! remember those snow walls the boys built? on Sunday night i needed Russ to go drop something off to someone in the ward. now i would have told the boys sorry, but i need to get the car out so i am going to have to knock down the snow walls. not Russ. not a daddy who was once a little boy. literally about 15 mins later and moving both jeeps to the driveway so the snow walls didn't get knocked down, Russ drove a few streets over to drop off something. the whole time William stood at the window just hoping his snow wall wouldn't get knocked down. what a great daddy! Thanks Russ for being way nicer then me! those walls are still sanding.

Looks fun! My guess is that it will last until there is snow and you can't come out for 5 minutes. Good luck with that!
